Psychologist Canberra

As a practicing Psychologist Canberra, support is offered for a broad range of mental health issues from our Fyshwick clinic. The approach used is Acceptance and commitment therapy for the treatment of many issues.

An initial consultation with a therapist will allow you to discuss your problems/concerns, to decide whether it is a good time for you to consider pursuing treatment, to explore the length of treatment psychology and frequency of sessions that would likely be required, and to determine whether the counsellor is a good fit for you.

Counselling can be beneficial when people experience problems that cause emotional distress or difficulty coping in their daily lives. We work frequently with people who struggle with concerns including anxiety, depression, stress, workplace difficulties, recovery from traumatic events, recovery from injury and chronic health conditions, addictions, relationship issues, and family-based difficulties. Individual therapy may also focus on longstanding personality based difficulties. Finding the right therapist in Canberra for anxiety is an important step to recover and we are here to help.

HOW WE CAN HELP YOU

~Share Us~

Are you looking for the secret to happiness? If you are, then we already have something in common - I like being happy too, and so has every one of my clients, past and present. What is different between most of us is where we think our "happiness" might come from. Frequently, happiness seems to be something very complex, starting with a lot of preconditions…

"…If only I could ____ then I would be happy"

Filling in the blanks is a broad range of different hopes and dreams:

  • find a partner
  • stop being anxious
  • kick my addiction
  • make some friends
  • stop feeling depressed
  • find a career/ change careers
  • stop being bullied
  • change my partner's attitudes/behaviours
  • have a baby
  • lose weight
  • get over my loss
  • get rid of my pain

Or a combination of these, and many more besides.

Sometimes we see happiness as being so complex and distant that it's not within our grasp at all - it's dependent on something or somebody else:

"I'll be happy when...

  • I can get pregnant
  • my baby becomes a toddler
  • there's a change of government
  • my partner and I are reunited
  • I win/inherit/get a lot of money
  • I get that promotion
  • my toddler goes to school
  • I get justice
  • I get over my trauma
  • my partner stops _____
  • my family issues are settled
  • my kids grow up
  • the restructure at work is over
  • the pandemic is over
  • I'm finally out of pain
  • the children leave home
  • climate change is addressed
  • I can finally retire

…And yet, some people seem to find happiness so simple, they have it all the time

That's not because they have perfect lives, or even that they don't have distressing thoughts or painful feelings - some or all of the issues behind the statements above might also be issues for them. It's that they have developed the skills they need to respond most effectively to their memories, thoughts and feelings so as to live lives of value and purpose (more often than not!) even in the midst of emotional pain

Could that be the secret to happiness for you? You can only try it to find out for yourself.
